Creggs senior womens team qualified for their first Connacht Senior Womens Cup final after a 45-5 victory over OLBC/Corinthians today in the semi final in Creggs. Creggs women were playing Against the wind in the first half and scored 3 tries in quick succession which laid the foundation for this victory. While both teams were guilty of some handling errors early in the game, it was Creggs who got on the scoreboard first, to through a try from Eabha Dowd which she converted for a 7-0 lead.. Straight from the kick off an excellent run from. Kelley Haugh, back up by another from Susan O Reilly, the ball moved wide and Shauna Fitzmaurice got in For her first try in the corner to stretch the lead to 12-0. Almost immediately Kelley Haugh again gathered the kick Off and an excellent run from Seren Griffiths released Shauna Fitzmaurice for her second try which Eabha Dowd converted to for a 19-0 lead for the home team. The visitors were rattled by the 3 quick scores, but they rallied and attacked and it took some excellent defence to hold them out until the half time break. The second half was 6 minutes old when Lisa O Rourke got in for a try which Eabha Dowd brilliantly converted from Out wide. Then after 21 minutes of the second half , after a couple of great carries from the forwards, senior debutant Ciara Corrigan spotted the gap and raced in for her first senior try which Eadha Dowd again converted for a 31-0 lead. Creggs continued to attack and got in for two more tries , a third for Shauna Fitzmaurice and after 28 minutes , Seren Griffiths got in for a score which she richly deserved after her performance to bring the score to 45-0.
