Creggs U18.5’s got their league campaign off to a winning start against Sligo RFC in Creggs on Sunday morning, coming out on top by 15 points to 3. Played in difficult handling conditions its a credit to both teams that this game was such am enjoyable and competitive game.

Creggs began the better and were in control of territory early on but it was the 17 minute before they took the lead after good work up front from Danny Hill, Darragh Kiernan and Jack Tucker saw the ball moved wide and Cian Glennon went over in the corner.

Creggs stretched their lead after 25 minutes when Sligo were caught offside at the ruck, Mark Purcell put the ensuing penalty into the corner and a very good training ground move from the lineout saw Ronan Lambe feed Ciaran Corcoran who powered his way over in the corner for a 10-0 lead which Creggs held until half time.

The next score was going to be vital in this game and a very good kick chase from the kick off at the start of the second half ensured Creggs regained possession and this was followed by a series of forward drives with Adam Donnelly, Ethan Glennon, Jack Keegan and Jack Hanley prominent. This excellent work gave Sean Trundle good possession and he fed Mark Purcell who dived over in the corner for a 15-0 lead.

The rain was now falling very heavily and further scores were going to be hard to come by, but to their credit Sligo continued to test the very impressive Creggs defence with Eric O’ Doherty, Tiernan O Sullivan and Lorcan Maher especially prominent but Sligo were rewarded with a penalty after 18 minuted which they converted to leave the score 15-3 with 17 minuted remaining. However, the visitors could not breach the Creggs defence again and that is how the match finished.
