Creggs 26 Tuam 27
U18 Friendly
Creggs U18 played their first game of the new season on Saturday evening last in Tuam and it was a most enjoyable contest with 8 tries shared equally between the sides. Creggs opened brightly with the backline moving the ball quickly from out half Rory Collins scrumhalf Theo McGuinness through centres Rory O’Brolacháin and Kevin Gavin to the onrushing full Shane Dowd who scored under the posts. Shane Dowd converted and followed this up a few minutes later with another try which also involved wingers John Brennan and Conor McNeill supporting him. The conversion was missed and Tuam rallied with two tries before the break. The second half brought tries from Tom Oates after good work at the lineout with help from props Andrew Mannion and Dan Butt. Matthew Brandon surged over for a fourth try supported by back row Callum McGee, Thomas O’Byrne and hard tackling Conor Gore. Creggs looked set for victory but a late try with the last play of the game gave Tuam a one point win in this friendly game. The league begins this weekend with Creggs away to Ballina in their first game. Training continues on Friday nights at 7pm and any new players who wish to join are still welcome.
