Creggs 10 Corinthians 27

Creggs U17 hosted Corinthians in their final league game on Sunday.

Creggs started well putting Corinthians under pressure in the early phases but knocked on giving a scrum away and then the referee alleged Creggs pushed past the 1.5metres giving a penalty to the opposition. Gallant defence by Creggs gave way to an unconverted try on the 7th minute. A great restart saw Luke Kilcommons gathering the ball and driving at the Corinthians defence and when Corinthians infringed in the ruck Ger Healy stepped up reducing the deficit to two. Both teams played a tight game in the conditions when one or two missed tackles saw the Corinthian pacey centre breach the Creggs line for another unconverted try on the 26th minute. On the 30th minute Creggs infringed and gave away a penalty which was slotted over by Corinthians. Creggs played the rest of the first half in the Corinthians half but were unable to reduce the score. Half time score, Creggs 3 – Corinthians 13.

Creggs started the second half defending but still kept the opposition from scoring until 5 minute in when an overlap saw their winger get in for a try in the corner followed by a conversion. Creggs responded well when a turn over tackle by Captain Michael Kelly released Luke Kilcommons who kicked the ball forward and regathered, scoring under the posts which was duly slotted by Ger Healy. Creggs tails were up but a few isolated forward runs saw them losing ground by giving away numerous penalties for holding on the ground. 10mins left and a yellow card given to the Creggs prop, saw the pack running out of steam and eventually giving away a converted try which left the final score at 27-10 to Corinthians.

It was a hard loss to take but overall the score did not reflect the game as a contest.

Well done team, keep at it.
