Creggs RFC U16 girls played Dunmore RFC in the quarter final of the cup on Monday evening. This game was scheduled for Dunmore but the recent weather made their pitch unplayable and the game was moved to Creggs 4G. Creggs started the game well and scored the first try through a lovely backs move finished by Muireanne Mulry in the corner. Dunmore hit back scoring a try to level things up. Creggs team got possession after the kick off and after a number of phases the backline for Creggs scored another try. Worryingly Dunmore hit back a short time later with a converted try to push them ahead with a 12 -10 score line heading into half time. Some great defence was displayed by the team in the second half who tackled everything thrown at them and never took a backward step. Creggs took control for enough time to release the backs and once again Mulry scored under the posts and Darcy Thorose converting for a 17-12 lead. During this period of time the forwards got in on the act with a try from their No.8, Isabelly Susaranna, with a lovely line break. Dunmore never gave up and scored two more tries of their own to level the scores but couldn’t convert as they were both scored out wide This fantastic game of rugby finished 22-22 all. Fortunately for Creggs the rules of the competition allow the team scoring the first try through to the semi-final. Well done to the girls and management for qualifying for the next round.
