U16 boys league division 1 final.
Creggs RFC 22 Buccaneers RFC 22
Creggs RFC boys under 16 played in the Connacht Division 1 league final in Ballinasloe against Buccaneers on Saturday afternoon. This was a repeat of the under 15 cup final of last year. The Creggs boys played the first 15 minutes of the game in the Buccs half making a number of good attacks for the try line. It was Buccaneers who scored first getting over the line to touchdown in the right corner where numerous tackles were missed by the Creggs backline. Creggs worked their way back up the field from the kick off and were awarded a penalty in front of the posts 30metres out. Kaylum Curran’s successful kick got their first three points. It was not long before Buccaneers were back down the field to score another try with the conversion being missed to lead 10-3. Buccs were dominant at this stage, heading to half time, and followed with another converted try. At half time Buccaneers lead 17 points to 3. Early in the second half Creggs drove hard into the 22 and after a lineout Cian Kiernan got over the line for Creggs 1st try, which was converted to close the gap to 17 to 10. Creggs were on a roll at this stage with a new confidence, found them attacking again. A kick ahead by Kalum Curran was collected by winger Dan Kelly who sprinted home for another try where the referee awarded it as a penalty try to bring the score level at 17 all. With 10 minutes to go Creggs pack were doing great work supporting each other and a superb run by Jack Keane led to a try by Kaylum Curran, going in front and taking the lead for the first time, 22 points to 17. Buccaneers team did not lie down and came back and scored in the final two minutes missing the conversion and securing a draw at 22 each. Shortly after the referee blew for time. This was an entertaining game with both teams showing skills. Creggs will regret not taking the win where now both teams will have to wait to see when they replay of the final.
