Creggs Senior women got back to winning ways in the Senior Womens League defeating University of Galway 38-7 in Galway on Sunday. Creggs started well and after some good phases Captain Susan O Reilly went over for a 5-0 lead after 5 minutes. Creggs were playing against the wind in the first half and a well drilled college team pinned them back and got in for a score of their own which they converted for a 7-5 lead to the home team after 10 minutes. Creggs were going through good phases and Sabina Egan was the next try scorer for Creggs when she beat the defence to score near the posts after 18 Minutes which Eabha Dowd converted going 12-7 ahead. Creggs scored another out wide after a great run from Seren Griffiths which Eabha Dowd expertly converted near the stroke of half time for a 19-7 half time lead

Playing with the wind in the second half, and with the weather deteriorating, both sides had a number of handling errors, but after 10 minutes Creggs got in for another try and secured the bonus point when Stacey Corbally picked and touched down from close range which Eabha Dowd converted to extend the Creggs lead to 26-7. Creggs continued to stretch the well organised college defence however the last pass just didn’t seem to stick. Creggs managed another try when a cross field kick by Eabha Dowd was well chased by Shauna Fitzmaurice who still had a lot of work to do with a defender hanging onto her and she managed to crash over to extend the lead to 31-7.
With the last play of the game and after multiple phases, Shauna Fitzmaurice broke through the defence again, which Eabha Dowd comverted to leave the final score 38-7. Creggs will play Galwegians in Galway on the 25th of January in an effective league semi final with the winner progressing through to the league final as both teams only have one league defeat.
