Creggs travelled to Loughrea for Sunday’s league game and came away with a bonus-point victory following an impressive display which yielded seven tries . Creggs were forced to make two early substitutions when first Bernard Kilcommons and then Eoghan Farrell sustained injuries in the opening exchanges. However,Creggs quickly regrouped and began to dominate up front against the home pack.A flowing backline move led to the opening try for winger Gerard Heneghan in the 14th minute. Shortly afterwards, powerful no.8 Kevin Brandon burst through the Loughrea defence for a fine individual try, which Heneghan converted to put Creggs 12-0 ahead. With young halfbacks Chris Duignan and Brian Cleary driving forward at every opportunity,Creggs were now in full flow and Impressive fullback Fintan Kelly cut through for another try in the 25th minute as Loughrea struggled to cope with the power and pace of the Creggs backline.Gerard Heneghan converted from a difficult angle to give Creggs a 19-0 lead.However,Loughrea did respond with a Dave Crowe try just after halftime but Kevin Brandon quickly restored the initiative for Creggs with a try in the left corner following some excellent interplay between backs and forwards.Creggs added further tries from Fintan Kelly,Kevin Brandon completing an impressive hat trick, with Ger Heneghan rounding off the scoring with his second try which he also converted .Loughrea grabbed a late try following some strong and determined forward play with Danny Barrett touching down for a deserved score. Creggs travel to Castlebar for another vital League game next Saturday and will be looking to build on this performance,which was by some distance their best of the season so far.
