Creggs first team overpowered Tuam in the J1A semi final in Creggs on Saturday evening. Creggs attacked into the Tuam 22 with fast passing and running and on the 6th minute Tuam gave away a penalty in front of the posts, kicked by Shane Purcell. In the 20th minute after Creggs won 4 penalties in a row finishing with a 5 meter lineout. The ball finished with Jack Fleming breaking the defence at pace where Mark Dowd gathered and got in for 5 under the posts. Purcell again took the 2 to put Creggs 10 clear. Within 10 minutes Creggs were back into the Tuam 5 meter line after huge line breaks by Ronan Cahill and Brian Diffley finishing with the pack making 15 meters in a maul. A solid scrum put Shane Purcell clear into the right corner for Creggs 2nd try. Now leading 15 – nil Creggs were lucky after giving away a pen 38 meters out after the kickoff. The pen was missed and the ball cleared for the half time break. Lee Kilcoyne was replaced by Jack Tucker just before half time and his physicality added to the Creggs pack strength. 8 minutes into the second half Creggs backs ran wide assisted by Tucker getting to their 22. 6 phases later Tucker joined the back line taking the ball in full flight getting home from inside the 22 to score Creggs 3rd try, 3rd try converted to go 22 clear. A penalty by Shane Purcell on 52 minutes pushed Creggs to 25. On 59 minutes Shane Purcell kicked over the top of the defence and a clearance kick was blocked by quick running Creggs prop Sean Og Higgins and winger Chris Duignan. Creggs took possession and held possession with great handling and finally spun ball across the back where hooker Danny Arnold jinked through the defence scoring Creggs bonus point 4th try. Now 30 clear the bench was emptied making for even quicker pace about the park. Tom Farrell making some huge carries release the back who got into the Tuam 22 for the final effort. Tuam under immense pressure tried to run the ball but James Brandon snapped an intercept ,taking a try, converted by Purcell to finish Creggs scoring on 37. In injury time Tuam eventually broke the duck scoring their only try and conversion with final score 37 -7. .
