Creggs 33 Old Crescent 24
An experimental Creggs XV played touring side Old Crescent in an entertaining “friendly” fixture at The Green on Saturday. This game, arranged by former Creggs stalwart , Martin Kelly,(still going strong for the Limerick city team),provided a lot of free-flowing rugby with both sides enjoying the perfect playing conditions . Old Crescent opened the scoring with a well-taken try but Stephen Crehan got Creggs back in the game with an opportunist try shortly afterwards. Crescent went 14-5 ahead with another fine try,but Thomas Flynn responded by touching down for a Creggs try after a 50 metre run. Ger Heneghan’s conversion left just two points between the teams at halftime.
In the second half,Creggs added further tries by Declan Nee,Trevor Nee and Thomas Flynn, with Ger Heneghan converting all three tries, while it was appropriate that Martin Kelly should complete the scoring by crossing for a try for Old Crescent on a ground where he played rugby for Creggs for several years. The game which proved very useful for both club, and there were impressive performances from Thomas Flynn, the Nee brothers ,Kevin Raftery,Leo Nally,Enda Tully and Eugene Fleming .
