Creggs U15 boys lose to Sligo in Cup

Boys U15 Cup 1st Round

Sligo RFC 20 Creggs RFC 7
Creggs Boys U.15s travelled to Sligo RFC for the first round of the cup on Saturday. The game was played in lovely sunshine and calm conditions. However straight from the kick off Sligo cut through Creggs midfield and raced through to score in the corner. This was followed by 10 minutes of stalemate before a missed tackle allowed the hosts break free and score their second try. Creggs now faced an uphill battle at 10 nil. After a period of back and forth in the middle third of the pitch, where neither team could make inroads it was the hosts who scored again on 24 minutes. In the final play of the first half Sam Walsh turned over a Sligo defender and fed Luke Hayes who crossed the line. Walsh kicked the conversion leaving the halftime score Sligo 15 Creggs 7.
Despite not playing well in the first half Creggs were still well in the game. A much more energetic second half saw the team get more of a foothold in the Sligo half but the home defence stood strong. When Creggs were penalised in their own 22, Sligo ran a good line out move to cross for the only score of the second half. Creggs never stopped trying but unfortunately couldn’t get enough phases together going forward and although they played the remainder of the game in the Sligo half they just could not carve out scoring opportunities leaving the final score Sligo 20 Creggs 7.
Round 2 of the cup pool stage takes place next weekend where Creggs host Castlebar.
