Creggs U14 Boys travelled to the Dexcon Stadiumon Sunday for the cup final v Ballinasloe RFC. Ballinasloe got off to a strong start making Creggs defend for long periods of time in the first half where Ballinasloe proved too strong and scored four first half tries to lead 24-0 at the break. Creggs came out fighting in the second half and started to spread the ball out wide and almost immediately they got rewarded with Cathal Nerney getting in for a try to get 5 points on the scoreboard. Creggs claimed the restart and went on the attack again and Ryan Halligan scored Creggs second try with Cathal adding the conversion to leave the score 24-12. Once again Creggs claimed the restart and went on the attack and almost got a third try but the referee deemed the pass to the Creggs winger to be a forward pass. Creggs kept attacking but gave away a penalty and Ballinasloe kicked for the posts and extended their lead to 27-12. Creggs kept attacking but Ballinasloe added two more tries to leave the final score Ballinasloe 39 Creggs 12. The game was not our day but to the team’s credit after a difficult start they picked themselves up and put in a brilliant second half performance.
