Creggs Second Team suffer narrow Connacht J2 League defeat

Creggs 2nd’s 2O, Tuam 2nd’s 21.

Tuam achieved a remarkable last minute victory over Creggs in Sunday’s opening Junior 2 League fixture at The Green. Having secured a last minute draw for Tuam firsts the previous evening, talented place-kicker Eoin Kelly landed a superb conversion from the touchline to give his team an amazing win, having trailed by 20 points to nil entering the final quarter.

Creggs played some great rugby in the first half, with tries by Alan Glennon, Ryan Murray and Michael Feeley the product of some excellent running and handling by the home team. The trend continued in the early stages of the second half, and when Stephen Crehan landed a well struck penalty to extend Creggs lead to 20 points, there looked to be no way back for Tuam.

But, a combination of injuries, lack of match practice and some weak tackling led to a remarkable transformation with Tuam crossing the Creggs try-line for 3 converted tries in a whirlwind final quarter.

Creggs 2nds are away to NUIG next Sunday. Training continues on Tuesday and Friday evenings in Roscommon, and on Wednesday night in Galway for players based. New players always welcome.

Creggs: Bernard Kilcommons, Michael Feeley, Barry Egan, Damien Miskell, Ryan Murray, Stephen Kilcommons, Stephen Crehan, Dan Butt, Enda Tully, Peter Heavey, Alan Glennon, Kevin Rushe, Damien Nolan, Eamon Finnegan, Matthew Brandon, Neville Walker, Matthew Butt, Mattie Corcoran, David Hoare, and Paul Mc Neill.
