Creggs march on to Connacht Under-17 League Final

Creggs Rugby 22 – Claremorris RFC 5.

Creggs Under-17’s will play in the Connacht Under-17 League Final after an excellent victory over Claremorris RFC in Ballyhaunis in the semi final last Thursday evening.

Played in showery conditions, this was a game Creggs never looked likely to lose as they took control from early on. Creggs had the better of early territory and should have had a try well before Brian Cleary picked from a 5 metre scrum and went over after 12 minutes. He converted himself to give Creggs a 7-0 lead.

Creggs again missed a couple of opportunities to score before a try from Matthew Brandon after 25 minutes after a lineout in the Claremorris 22″. The final score of the first half came from a penalty by Brian Cleary after Claremorris were penalised at the breakdown. This left the advantage with the Creggs lads at half-time with a scoreline of 15-0.

The second half was a much more even contest and it took Creggs 18 minutes to register a score. After a series of five metre scrums, Dylan Keavney went over the Claremorris try line for the third Creggs try. Brian Cleary landed his second conversion leaving the score 22-0.

Creggs defended their line for periods in the second half and Claremorris did get their just reward for their second half play when they scored a try with the last play of the game. It wasn’t converted so the final score was Creggs Rugby 22 – Claremorris RFC 5.

The final will be played between Monivea RFC and Creggs next Thursday with the time and venue to be decided.
