Creggs 2nds V Ballina J1C league

Creggs 2nds took on Ballina on Sunday afternoon in a home game in the J1C league. Ballina struck early scoring 7 when Creggs defence were slow to react. What was good to see was the reply which came immediately from the kickoff getting possession inside their 22 and Maurice Buckley scoring 5. Mark Brandon added 2 to level the score. Buckley again scored a second try running at pace, scoring under the posts. Brandon adds the conversation to put Creggs 17-7 up. Creggs scored again after 19 minutes after the forwards drove to the line letting Pete Lohan force his way over for 5 more and Brandon added 2 to go 21 -7 clear. On 30 minutes Brian Cleary’s kick brought forward the attacking pack who drove a maul 20 meters before Luke Divilly’s scoring the 4th bonus point try. Now 26 -7 ahead at half time. 5 mins into the 2nd half Darren Gately nailed a tackle on twice his size wing forward, and Creggs gained control spinning ball wide to the left wing where Mick Farrell sprinted from 45 out to get the 5th try. Now 31-7 Ballina tried their best to score getting a maul 4 meters under the post but sub Enda Naughton had a different opinion joining the maul and ripping the ball and breaking 10 meters to clear the threat. Within minutes Naughton took possession at the 22 and broke numerous tackles eventually passing to vetern Tommy Fleming who scored a 6th try with Brandon adding 2 more for 38 – 7 scoreline. On 74 minutes Darren Gately, now playing at 10 broke through to the halfway line passing to Geraghty who made ground before Gerry Comer finishes a brilliant move. At 43 -7 ahead and only minutes left Creggs attacked again to score soccer style “messi dribble” by prop Matthew Curley getting under the posts and Comer converted to leave final score 50-7. Hard to believe Ballina’s only score was at the 3 minute mark as a result of a committed defence by Creggs. Congrats team and management.
