Creggs add another bonus point win v Sligo

Connacht Junior 1 League
Creggs Rugby 24, Sligo RFC 7.

Creggs sit third in the Connacht J1 League Table following this bonus point win over Sligo at The Green on Saturday. They are now 5 points behind League leaders Connemara, 3 points behind second placed Monivea but with a game in hand on both. This adds extra significance to this Saturday’s clash with Monivea at The Green, a game which is already doubling up as the Semi-Final of the Cawley Cup. Kick-off versus Monivea on Saturday evening at The Green at 7.30 pm.
The opening quarter on Saturday was fairly even but Creggs began to exert a stranglehold on the game as it progressed. Right-winger Luke Meehan broke the deadlock with an unconverted try after 25 minutes and 3 minutes before half time prop Aidan Leech finished off a good move, in which he had already featured twice in the build up, with a try under the posts, and converted by Mark Brandon.
Creggs stretched their lead early in the second half, capitalising on a botched drop off with Chris Duignan eventually crossing in the left corner.
The bonus point beckoned but was a long time coming, centre Tom Callaghan finally getting over on 67 minutes following a sustained period of Creggs dominance, which until that breakthrough had proved an exercise in frustration. Mark Brandon landed the tricky conversion leaving his side 24-0 ahead.
However, an intercepted pass allowed Sligo break their duck right at the death.
Creggs Rugby: Ronan Dowd, Luke Meehan, Kevin Gavin, Tom Callaghan, Shane Dowd, Mark Brandon, Tom Fleming, Maurice Buckley, Eoghan Farrell, Brian Donoghue, Tom Oates, Brian Diffley, Peter Lohan, Kevin Brandon, Sean O’ Higgins, Aidan Leech, Ronan Cahill, Aidan Brandon, and Edward Clinton.
