Creggs 10 Galwegians 43

Creggs opened their league campaign with a defeat to a strong Galwegians team last Sunday in Creggs. Despite the torrential overnight rain the game was played in good conditions and Galwegians began brightly with an early try. Creggs replied with good pressure themselves with good drives from James Regan, Alex Syrek and Simon Spain setting up a penalty opportunity for Kevin Gavin. A second Galwegian try did not deter Creggs and the home side put together an excellent number of phases together with Michael Kelly, Rory O’Donoghue, Dan Butt and Brian Diffley prominent which led to second row Michael Kelly crossing over under the posts for a try which Kevin Gavin converted. The half time score was 12 points to 10 in favour of the visitors. Unfortunately the away side scored a number of tries in the second half to end up winners but Creggs kept trying to the end with Cathal Crehan, Thomas O’Bryre, Luke Kelly, Connor Gore, Michael Farrell and Aidan Devine playing well. Creggs also had good performances from Andrew Mannion, Christy Leahy, Conor McNeill, and Colm Fallon. Training continues Wednesday night at 7pm. Match versus Monivea on Sunday away at 12 noon.
