Connacht U18 Cup Quarter Final

Creggs 21 Galwegians 22
A last gasp try with 3 minutes left saw Galwegians advance to the semi-final of the Connacht U18 cup against a very committed and gallant Creggs team last Sunday in Creggs. Creggs will feel that they should have won this game as they dominated possession and created most of the opportunities. However, it was Galwegians who started quickly with a driving maul off the lineout yielding an early unconverted try. Creggs responded with a Shane Dowd penalty and good work from Matthew Brandon, Ronan Cahill and Edward Clinton. Then, a Galwegian centre dropped a pass which John Brennan latched onto and kicked ahead for Michael Farrell to make a great break out pacing the opposition for a great try. Shane Dowd added another penalty. The Galwegians replied with a try of their own leaving the Galway side leading by 17 points to 11 at half time. The second half saw Creggs dominate field position and a Kevin Gavin penalty reduced the gap to 3 points when Shane Dowd skipped both centres to find full back John Brennan who weaved his way through the defence to score a great try under the posts. Shane Dowd converted and unfortunately a late Galwegians forward try denied them what would have been a famous victory.
