Galwegians RFC 12 Creggs RFC 3
Creggs RFC lost the final of the U16 Connacht League to Galwegians on Sunday afternoon in Tuam on a scoreline of 12-3.
A very close game was right down to the wire right up until 4 minutes from the end when a breakaway try and conversion by Galwegians made the victory secure. Galwegians had much the better of the first half , constantly asking questions of the Creggs defence out wide through good tactical kicks, and were using the wind well keeping Creggs pinned back and but they only had a 5-0 lead at Half time after a try mid way through the half which Creggs will be disappointed to have given away after a couple of missed tackles.
Creggs had a much better second half and good work by Rian Biesty, Daire Byrne and James Brandon around the fringes and by Shane Purcell, Jason Hoare and Adam canny out wide were asking questions of the Wegians defence. Creggs reduced the deficit after 14 minutes of the second half after a penalty by Ronan Dowd reduced the deficit by 5-3. Creggs continued to attack and good work by Ian Conlon, Danny Arnold and Brian Maloney in the loose and David O Gorman out of touch kept Creggs parked in the Galwegians 22”, after a series of penalties Creggs were held up just short on a few occasions and then with only minutes to go a breakaway try by Wegians which was converted increased their lead to two scores and had the victory secure on the day.
Creggs must now prepare themselves to meet the same opposition in the semi final of the Connacht Cup in two weeks time which will be hard task as Galwegians have home advantage for that semi final. Good Luck to all involved.
