Ballina 20 Creggs 5

Creggs U17 lost to Ballina last Sunday in Ballina in the Quarter Finals of the Connacht U17 Cup. Creggs were missing a number of players due to injury and unavailability and despite the best efforts of the lads who played Ballina proved too strong in the end.

Creggs opened brightly with good drives from Simon Spain, Brian Diffley and Brian Coady. They secured good field position close to the Ballina line but could not get across the line despite great effort by Rory O’Donoghue, Dan Butt and Andrew Mannion. Ballina scored a converted try on their first visit to Creggs territory and added a penalty before some neat interplay between Shane Dowd, Michael Farrell, Robbie Daly and Colm Fallon saw Luke Kelly cross the line for a great try.

Shane Dowd failed to convert and Creggs were back in the game. However, after half-time Ballina added two more unconverted tries and despite the valiant efforts of Conor Gore, Matthew Butt, Alex Syrek and Thyomas O’Byrne and Callum McGee Creggs failed to score for the remainder of the game. Final score Ballina 20 Creggs 5.
