U17s come up short in Ballina

Creggs RFC travelled to Ballina on Sunday evening for their league game. A bright start saw Creggs build up momentum and Andrej Anic crossed the line with a conversion by Harry Waldron on 10 minutes. Conor Flynn scored a superb breakaway try before half time leading 12 to 3. Kian Hughes scored two minutes into the 2nd half and when Waldron converted, it looked like Creggs were in control and could put the game to bed early. However some defence lapses saw the hosts score from the restart. After a further 10 minutes Ballina scored again to leave the score Creggs 19 – Ballina 15. It was now a full on battle when Kian Hughes scored from a tap penalty and Waldron converted again extend the lead to eleven points. Yet again Creggs conceded possession from the kick off and with time almost up Ballina scored in the corner and added the conversion to take the lead for the first time in the game. This was a disappointing finish as it was too late to mount another attack and the referee ended the game. Final score Creggs 26 Ballina 29.
