Creggs Senior women rugby team won their first piece of silverware since the late 1990’s when they won the Invitational Plate against Galwegians Second XV on a scoreline of 40-14 in a Sunny Dunmore on Sunday afternoon.
The first half Creggs Women played against the hill but were willing to throw the ball and offload in the tackle which proved to be crucial as they ran in four first half tries by Jennifer Morris (2) Shauna Walsh (2) and two conversions by Shauna Walsh and Kayleigh Mannion to lead by 26-0 at half time.
The second half the bigger Galwegians pack used their power and managed to get in for a try and conversion early in the second half , however the Creggs girls kept moving the ball and a great run by Shannon Haugh saw Jemima Adams Verling go over in the corner which was converted by Shauna Walsh, then Shauna Walsh got in the scoreboard again herself when she chipped through and regathered to touch down under the posts and converted the conversion to lead by 40 points to 7 as time we as s running out.

Galwegians kept going and after a sustained period of pressure and a number of penalties they scored a good try in the corner which they converted well to leave the final score 40-14.
