U14s take on Sligo RFC

U14s take on Sligo RFC

The U.14 boys had an early start for the second Sunday in a row when they welcomed the league table topping Sligo RFC to the Green After a night of rain conditions were soft and handling was going to be tricky. The visitors were on the scoreboard after 2 minutes when got in the corner for the first try. Creggs regrouped and put in some great defensive work.On the stroke of ten minutes Sligo got in again to stretch their lead to 12-0. Creggs closed the gap when Captain Jack Donoghue crossed the line on eighteen minutes to get Creggs of the mark. With the halftime approaching Creggs were trailing 12-5. Unfortunately against the run of play Sligo extended their lead scoring another 7 to go in 19-5 at the break.

In the second half on the eleventh and eighteen minutes Sligo scored two more tries in the corner to move to 29 points. Creggs defended well down the middle but failed on the edges out wide. On the twentieth minute Creggs won a scrum twenty meters out and having dominated the scrum all day, the confidence was high that they might get something out of this set play. That confidence was well rewarded when Jack Donoghue picked from back of scrum, drew in two players and released Harris Curran to dive in over the line. With time running out this left the score 29-10. Creggs didn’t stop and the team pressed forward but unfortunately couldn’t add to their tally. This team are still finding their ability to play as a team, which is improving in each game. This team have two weeks off now before they welcome Ballina to Creggs.
